FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHO IS COURT STREET?
Court Street United Methodist Church has been around since around 1920 originally located in various places in downtown Hattiesburg around Court Street and Southern Avenue. Court Street currently is in West Hattiesburg. With its long heritage one might would think that Court Street probably has an old traditional churchy feel. Well, we do not. While we feel there is nothing wrong with that; if it’s what you choose. To us a blended service filled with worship and praise is more our style. We feature three contemporary Christian songs and two more traditional hymns performed by our praise team every Sunday along with in service lyrics. Our praise team currently has two vocalist, keyboard, guitar, and drums.
Court Street is a church that is radically diverse, as we yearn and work to be united in faithfulness to Jesus Christ. Our congregation's people are multi-racial, rich, poor, gay, straight, young, old, highly-educated, ex-convicts, recovering addicts, disabled, socially powerful, and socially forgotten.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
What ever you feel comfortable in. Whether that be Sunday best or even a t-shirt and shorts. We all wear something totally different. Theres no stuffy church people here.
DO YOU HAVE A PLACE FOR KIDS?
Well we do. We consider it to be in service with us all. In keeping with Methodist Tradition; we see kids as a joy and they are welcomed into our service. Each service has a Children’s moment with appropriate learning that follows along with the sermon for that day. While we don’t have a nursery, we do offer a cry room stocked with essentials needed for young age children. Our service is streamed live to this room via TV.
COMMUNION
On the 2nd Sunday of each month we observe Holy Communion. Communion is open to all who wish to partake. We believe that communion is the Lord’s Table not Court Streets or The United Methodist Church table. It is God’s table and all are welcome.
WHAT IS A SERVICE LIKE?
The best way to get a feel for one of our services is to come join us in-person but if you can’t do that we understand. The next best thing is to checkout a service by “Watching” Church Online!
